(( Havaniruz هوانیروز )) Imperial Iranian Army Aviation - هواپیمایی نیروی زمینی شاهنشاهی ایران Last Updated: 21 October, 2007 The Imperial Iranian Army Aviation (named: Havaniruz in Farsi) was established in 1970 by the order of H.I.M Shahanshah Aryamehr. The great man who was chosen for this hard job was General Manuchehr Khosrodad. Khosrodad (that we can call him the Father of Havaniruz) then a Brigadier General started his job with some light Aircraft's to build an unite in organization of one Battalion. After 3 years of hard day and night work he enlarged the IIAA to a Brigade force with many new equipment and installations, a new pilot training center and large depot. The rapidly growing Army Aviation Command (Havaniruz), whose main operational facilities were located at Esfahan, was largely equipped with American aircraft, although some helicopters were of Italian manufacture (The Shah first ordered more than 200 helicopters from Italy, these were manufactured under American license). April 29, 1975 Major General Manuchehr Khosrodad (the commander of IIAA), flying a Bell Model 214A officially claims five world helicopter records. They are Time-to-Climb to 3000, 6000 and 9000 meters and maximum altitude (approximately 30,000 feet or 9144 meters) and sustained altitude (approximately 29,000 feet or 8840 meters). He is recognized by the Federacion Aeronautique Internacional (FAI) at the 1975 Paris Air Show. In 1979 the army aviation operated some 60 light fixed-wing aircraft, but its strength laid in its fleet of some 700 combat helicopters.

Havaniruz after the Islamic Revolution: هوانیروز پس از انقلاب شوم اسلامی After the revolution, "Havaniruz" like other sections of IIArmy, beard heavy strokes. Its commander, General Khosrodad (one of the best chopper pilots in the world) was executed by the Islamic regime and most of the choppers were immobilized through lack of proper maintenance and spares. During the 8 years war with Iraq (1980-88) the Iranian Army Aviation had many courageous and fateful roles against the enemy. After the war Havaniruz tried to brace and there were some reports of purchase, repair and even product new helicopters. On 18 July 1991 the Iranian Army Aviation commander said that Iran made some converses with Italy to get some helicopters that it was owe to Iran before the revolution. He added too that new "havaniruz" base will be open soon in "Mashhad" (NorthEast of Iran).
